Last night we celebrated Spain at the Cervantes Institute honoring the work of 6 Andalucian companies who have been touring our city in hopes of finding new markets for their prized Blanco Macael (White Marble).

Tomorrow night we’re looking forward to the 80′s theme Birthday Bash for Keilhauer and finally the LMNOP Fundraising event at Allsteel on Thursday to cap off the week.

WHAT IS PARAMETRIC MODELING?

As the name suggests, parametric (sometimes called feature-based) modeling uses defined parameters to model a feature. It differs from traditional CAD modeling in several key ways. Most notably, a parametric model interrelates values to generate a specific geometry dependent on those values. Parametric models have a scale and a logic that suggests a relationship to the things around them.
Parametric features are associated with attributes such as intrinsic geometric parameters (length, width, depth), position and orientation, geometric tolerances, material properties and references to other features. In traditional CAD modeling, objects exist independently of their surroundings.
A CAD-designed cube would have six sides, but there would be no distinction between the top, the bottom and the sides. A parametrically designed cube would exist in a defined orientation that would change as objects around it change. In other words, it would have a defined top and a bottom, and the cube would react to changes in any adjoining objects.

HOW DOES SEEYOND USE PARAMETRIC MODELING ?

SEEYOND’S collection of proprietary algorithms and software tools work in concert with industry-standard CAD software platforms. The user selects the feature type, then modifies its size, form and tessellation. And finally, chooses any relief or visual effects.

The tool provides feedback on material, hardware, and manufacturing requirements, as well as preliminary structural evaluation so that designers can make more informed decisions earlier in their project. And since Seeyond’s is software is parametric, each change in any variable automatically modifies the relationships among all the variables in the design.

Unlike other modeling methods, parametric modeling gives designers the ability to evaluate the implications of a design modification on many variables at once.
